What are the main types of fat cells?

  • Subcutaneous fat – are found directly under the surface layers of your skin, including upper arms, thighs, hips and underneath the buttocks

  • Visceral fat – are found within the abdominal areas, between the stomach, intestines, liver and kidneys. Out of the two types of fat, this is the most harmful. It can cause heart diseases, sleep apnea and Type 2 diabetes.
